Railroad Product Line

In 1993, Unit Forgings expanded its operation to include railway products such as wear plates, assemblies, bowls, draft components, and roping staples. Unit Forgings also established a machine shop to accomodate the detailing of center plates and wear plates per customer specifications. This includes milling, grinding, countersinking, and drilling, as required.

The Railroad Product Line Catalog is now available for download, using Adobe Acrobat software. (approx. 1.5 MB, 7 to 8 minutes using a standard 56K connection).

Center Plates are available in 12", 14", and 16" diameters, forged and machined to AAR specifications. Flange thickness from 3/4" to 1-3/4". Plates can be machined and drilled to customer specifications

Assemblies are designed to fit body bolsters for both fixed and sliding sill underframes.

Bowls can be solid or hollow for 12, 14, and 16" bolster pockets. Peripheral weld are 3/8" and 3/4" concave radii as required.

Roping staples are forged to withstand the loads experienced in today's rugged freight car service.
